Long bio

Arj Thiruchelvam is a performance coach, broadcaster and author based in Solihull. A former decathlete, he has coached since 2005 and founded Performance Physique in 2014, helping more than 2,500 athletes, from first-time runners to Team GB Olympians, achieve personal bests at every distance.

A Loughborough University sports science graduate, Arj has lectured in higher education and co-designed two sports science degrees for Oxford Brookes University. His approach is simple: assess, don’t guess.

He is a regular voice on BBC radio, including his London Marathon series on BBC Radio London, and has appeared on BBC News and Sky News and in The Times, The Telegraph and The Independent. He has spoken at the National Running Show four years running, is a twice-shortlisted Coach of the Year finalist, and hosts at the International Running Expo in Amsterdam.

His first book, Strength and Conditioning for Teenagers, is published by Bloomsbury Sport on 3 December 2026.
